6 Best Hikes and Trails in the Poconos

Some of the most breath-taking scenery in all of Pennsylvania may be found in the Pocono Mountains. You can stroll through the woods or put your running skills to the test on the Poconos' miles of gorgeous hiking routes. There are so many Poconos treks to choose from because the region is home to so many different state parks and recreational places. Keep reading for insights on six of the best Poconos hiking trails.

1. The Appalachian Trail

This ancient trail, which runs from Georgia to Maine, is a must for any hiker visiting the Poconos. The Poconos are home to almost 45 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Although some parts of the Appalachian Trail in the Poconos can be challenging for walkers, the rewarding scenery along the way more than makes up for the difficulty.

2. Tobyhanna State Park Trail

This state park features 10 miles of hiking paths of varying difficulties, all centered around the picturesque 170-acre Tobyhanna Lake. The path circle that goes all the way around the lake is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon, as it is relatively flat and passes through wetlands, evergreen forests, and a wide variety of flora and fauna. In the spring, the bogs become a breeding ground for Jefferson salamanders and wood frogs. Trail running, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing can all benefit from the route's sturdy, well-maintained surface.

3. Promised Land Boundary Trail

The native Lenape used the now-protected 3,000-acre area of Promised Land State Park as a hunting field. More than 50 miles of hiking routes now crisscross the Pocono Plateau, located at an elevation of around 1800 feet. It's mostly a smooth path, but there are a few rocky, challenging spots. The trail begins at the northern end of the popular fishing and boating spot of Promised Land Lake and then circles the lake's eastern side through fern groves and across small waterfalls.

4. Hickory Run State Park

Hickory Run State Park has 24 trails that range in difficulty and landscape. Throughout the hikes, you can observe waterfalls, streams, rhododendrons, and dense flora. Hawk Falls, Boulder Field, and Shades of Death are three of the most well-known paths. Surface conditions on the Trail are never the same. There are gravel, dirt-packed, flat trails and rocky, hilly ones.

5. Lehigh Gorge State Park Trail

This beautiful trail offers more than 25 miles of breathtaking splendour and some historical history as it follows the Lehigh River. In addition to the wildlife, visitors can explore the remaining Upper Grand Section of the Lehigh Canal. Whitewater rafting, fishing, and cross-country skiing are just a few of the activities that may be enjoyed in Lehigh Gorge State Park.

6. Bushkill Falls Trail

In a wooded enclave of 300 acres in the heart of the Pocono mountains, you'll find a sequence of eight waterfalls known as the Bushkill Falls. From the trailhead of Bushkill Falls, also called the Niagara Falls of Pennsylvania, you can take one of four trails to the waterfalls, ranging in length and complexity from the accessible 15-minute Green Trail with little elevation gain to the challenging nearly two-mile Red Trail. Following the Red Trail will allow you to see all eight waterfalls, including an up-close view of the stunning Bridal Veil Falls. Birdwatchers love this trail because of the variety of birds they can view, including songbirds, owls, hawks, and eagles.

When going on a hike, it is essential to remember the basics: water, sunscreen, bug spray, and a first aid kit. While exploring the Pocono Mountains, take advantage of the best dining and accommodation options nearby.
